Kaleva is too adorable! Sleep? 8 hours? I had to laugh when I read that! Too many memories for me. We joked that we didnt a whole nights sleep until Riley was a year old! Just hang in there, it will get better. We tried the kennel too, and it just didnt work for us. He used it as a "port-a-john" period. So we basically did what you are doing, we blocked off a bathroom with baby gates for him to stay when no one was home, and then as he got bigger/older/house trained, ect we gave him more and more freedom in the house. At night he slept in our room with the rest of the house blocked off. Sometimes I wish that we had worked more with using the kennel, but at the time it was too frustrating and we finally threw in the towel. I have friends that have kennel trained their dog, and it has worked great for them. Maybe because Berners are so sensitive its harder to do it with them. I swear, Riley gets his feelings hurt soooooooo easy. And I am always a "sucker" for it. Even when he was a puppy he was pretty good about waking us up to go out, it's just that after you get up and go outside it's hard to get him calm again and get yourself back into sleep mode. I would always try not to talk to him too much, except to say "good boy" for going potty outside. I dont know..... I wish I had some better advise for you, but it's just really hard to have a puppy. They need a LOT of attention and love. But like I said, just hang in there it will get better and it will be worth it.

Since then we've kept her in the small bathroom adjacent to our bedroom at night. But I'm wondering if I should try putting her in her kennel again? She goes into her kennel sometimes during the day but we haven't tried shutting the door since that first traumatic night.

Do you guys use a kennel at night? We still have to get up to let her out twice during the night. How do you get your puppy to go back to sleep again after they have gone outside? When are they able to sleep through the night? I love her but I could really use a solid 8 hours of sleep!

Thanks!
