Thanks for all the great suggestions! Kaleva is gradually working up to spending all night in her kennel (we're up to three hours!). What made the biggest difference was that I bought a smaller kennel. We had a larger adult sized kennel that we put a box in to make it smaller. Apparently that wasn't small enough for her. I went to the store and just bought a cheap smaller (still pretty big) kennel with a divider panel. That made all the difference in the world.
I've also started giving her treats in her kennel. For example when she comes in from going outside I have her go in her kennel and "have a seat" before I give her the treat. It seems to be working really well she just runs in there now.
Also Kaleva loves our box fan. For some reason she is just hot all the time (I live in Minnesota, it is always below 70 in the house). It helps if I put the box fan on medium right up against her kennel when she is in it. I think she hated the kennel because it was so hot. Now she just lays on her back with the fan blowing across her belly.
I think we'll get there... eventually. But now I'm hopeful!
