I have a puppy. He is 7 months old and alwyas has diharea at one point in the month. It has now been 4 days. I mix rice with his food and then it comes back ok, but starts over again at one point. I did switch his food few months ago, but even before that, it was still the same. I am wondering if he might be intolerent to veal, chicek, grains, what food are you guys giving your dogs?

I had this problem with my puppy for the first 3 or 4 months we had her. in the end i realized that the food we were giving her was too high in protein for her to handle. we were feeding her evo by innova. we switched her to wellness and she hasn't had any problems since.

Hi, we had exactly the same problem with Ollie when he was a puppy. He had terrible bouts of diarrhoea on and off with no obvious cause. He had been on Eukanuba puppy food so we took him off that and our vet put him on a prescription diet for a while (Hill's). This did help but as soon as Ollie went back on the Eukanuba the diarrhoea came back. We'd have kept him on the prescription food but it was really expensive.

We then switched to Burns which is a holistic dog food (made in UK). It contains no dairy products, is free of soya, wheat and beef and has no artificial flavourings, colourings or preservatives. After being on this for a short time, Ollie's diarrhoea stopped and we've had no problems since. His coat also looks really shiny and he loves the food.

I would certainly recommend a hypoallergenic dog food like Burns which is a bit lower in protein than some.

We also had terrible troubles with one of our Berners and found that once we switched to a grain free dog food, the diarrhoea completely disappeared. I think that buying very high quality dog food is worth the ensuing result and reading the label is important. We live in Canada and have found that the grain-free "GO!" and "NOW!" food is excellent and instantly solved the dog's troubles. We mix a very small amount of something like canned salmon or a bit or left-over roast beef (and it's never more than about a tabelspoon or 2 at most) and the dogs gobble it down and have "perfect poop". I would look for a label that says "less poop" - because this means less fillers like corn or wheat. We pay a small fortune for their food but between the "perfect poop" and their beautiful glossy coats, I feel it's worth every penny. (BTW, I think it's terrible how much a person pays for dog food, cookies, toys, etc. - for goodness sakes, it's more than we are paying for human stuff!! Those guys know how to get us softies, eh?)

at... Petcurean Pet Nutrition If you live in Canada, they should be already available in any of your (better) pet supply stores. They won some kind of award for best dog food in Canada a year or 2 ago, which, I don't care about, only that I see that my dogs have incredibly shiny, healthy coats, have good, healthy poops and are less hungry.
