Old Recommend your dog food
Junior Member
Hi everyone, I am looking for recommendations for brands of dog food. I have a 1 year old Berner and he has been eating Blue Buffalo large breed dog food, but with the recent recall, I am hesitant to keep him on this food as he has exhibited the symptoms of high Vitamin D exposure (excessive water intake, urination, etc.) I have contacted our vet and we are closely monitoring him. I think I want to switch brands completely. What do you feed your Berner? Thanks in advance!

Hi, I have been looking into new foods for our girl as well ( we have been feeding her eaglepack holistic). After looking at a bunch of different dry kibble it seems like any of the orijen products are very good and the price is actually a little less than the eaglepack holistic(locally anyway)....since we have just started changing her over i can't tell you our experience with it yet though. The protein content is a little high and i'm not sure if thats a problem as it mostly comes from meat products....no grains.

I use Life Abundance for Cookie. She loves it and it is so healthy for her.

Dear Berner folks, after much research and careful observation of our Bernese ' BIG BLU'.
We came to this conclusion:

If the desire of cooking for your loved one is on top of your do list, then I would suggest 'Urban Wolf'. This brand is to us the Best! The price, well you must pay a bit more for it than prepared dry food. You most cook for your loved one too!!!

What I mean is that you must invest the time to give your dog this lifestyle. Big Blu, loves it and he never had heath problems. He is just so perfect and HAPPY!!!
Urban Wolf is a MUST !

Blue is now six and still thinks he's a puppy.
The healthy home cooking mixed with Urban Wolf
keeps him smiling and his coat shiny.

He loves the following: 1cup of Urban Wolf + 1cup of water+ either 1 raw carrot peeled into small pieces + 1 cooked potato, or sweet potato, or red potato.

Other things he likes mixed are occasionally: Broccoli, tomato, water melon in the summer.
We cook him chicken, beef cubes, lamb, pork
as well.

If you don t have the time or budget, you can try
HOLISTIC SELECT from California, that's what we're giving him now and you don't have to mix and cook all that expensive and delicious organic food.

Go to the two websites and find out how you can get either product. Your Berner will be happy!
