My guy is almost five months old. I'm currently feeding him 4 1/2 cups of kibble a day broken up into three meals. The breeder says he should be eating 5-6 cups a day. This seems excessive to me and contradicts the daily amount on the dog food bag for his age and weight (36 lbs). He looks healthy, great coat and the vet says his weight is fine.
Also, should I think about dropping one meal and feeding him twice a day? Thanks in advance for any advice. |

I don't think a bag or even a breeder can tell you exactly what is right. You need to go on your individual puppy and how they look and feel . If they look good, are fine and vet says they are in a good weight range then don't worry.
I dropped from 3 meals to 2 meals at about 10 months. But honestly alot of times I do a small helping mid day because I'm a sucker and feel they need a good snack ![]() |

I'd use the bag as a guide, but like Liza said, you'll be able to tell if it's enough or too much based on how he's filling out. Our vet has a poster in his office about healthy forms for dogs, but I'm sure you can find most of that through Google!
Barney is only 3 months old and gets 2 meals a day, but he also gets a serving set aside each day that we use for treats. |
