Ollie is fed mostly raw, poultry necks beef or tripe chunks beef mince or tripe mix, with yoghurt (natural) raw egg couple of times a week crushed clove of garlic, tsp honey, mix veg and fruit if not included in the food, salmon oil, joint formula and he is also getting a small amount of Orijen kibble as this is meant to be very good.
I would like to know more about the kinds of bones and raw meat to give my Berner. |

Ollies breeder feeds raw so that is why he is mostly fed raw. He was on raw chicken wings at 6 weeks old. He isn't so keen on them he prefers the poultry necks. He will eat chicken wings still frozen. I do not feed him lamb very much it tends to give him soft stools, but he likes marrow bones minced tripe, beef, tripe chunks and beef chunks good for chewing and we can also get something called banquet nuggets here they are a mixture of meats and fruit and veg. If I give him the mince with no added fruit or veg I put a variety of raw fruits and veg through the food processor excluding tomatoes and potatoes. He also likes ox heart and lambs hearts, I try to find some meats mixed with liver as this good for them too, but Ollie hates it unless it is really well disguised. We have some good raw feeding sites here in the UK would be worth you finding some if you want to go this route, I also had a lot of help from Ollies breeder with it. There are also some good books out there. I feed 2% of Ollies weight he tends to put weight on, if they are on the lean side it would 3% of body weight. We can buy most of what he needs from pet stores, we also have suppliers here that will deliver and they all have to be checked by an organisation called DEFRA, to make sure the meat is healthy before it is sold for animal consumption. Do some research and make sure it is for you and that you can give your dog all that it needs. When we go on Holidays we feed a wet food called Nature Diet which is all natural or a good quality kibble I have just discovered which is all natural and contains fruit and veg. All bones must be fed raw it is the cooking that softens them and makes them dangerous and splinter, you must also not overfeed bones because they will impact and then your dog will have problems, so it is vital to research to get the ratio right. |

Yes. I meant to change my post after I realized that it was Blue Buffalo, and not just "Blue". Does Molly love it? Riley goes crazy over it. I did alot of reading and I thought it sounded really healthy. We have 2 different people in our family that have switched their dogs too now, and they are really happy with it.

Hi all,
We did tons of research on food and basically what we came up with is that whatever is from the vet's is crap (majority). My vet tried to recommend Eukanuba. Not impressed. We use Orijen large breed puppy for our boy Toa (now 13 weeks old). It is made in Alberta (where I live) and is all organic natural ingredients with no fillers. We thought about raw food diet, but for us it was just too inconvenient and too much of a hassle, with travel and if we even needed him to be babysat, it was just not a good choice for us. But I've heard awesome things about it and I do still add various things to his diet a couple of times/week to get him used to things and get him other types of vitamins and nutrients. A few breeders that we know feed their dogs high quality kibble and supplement a little raw/boiled meat and veggies, yogurt, etc here and there. There are sooo many choices out there, and it can really be overwhelming. But we all just want what's best for our dogs ![]() |

We feed our Berners Core by Wellness. It's first four ingredients are meat products and is grainless. If you want to see how the food your feeding your dog rates, see the link below. It's excellent. Ideally you should stay away from food with lots of fillers and grains. Low grade ingredients.

Hi - We don't supplement with vitamins, but do add fish oil to their food. I have not heard of Nuvet, what kind of vitamin/nutrient value do they add? Thanks! |
