Well my puppy is almost 6 months old and yesterday he started having diarrhea when my wife went home to see him on her lunch break. When I got home last night I took him for a walk and he again had the diarrhea. I gave him a lot of water because I don’t want him to become dehydrated. We went to bed last night and from 1am-7am he woke me up 5 times because he had to go outside. Most of the time a little water came out and he just stood there hunched over and trying to go to the bathroom. I haven’t changed any of his food or treats. I did have him at the park over the weekend and he was playing in a little creek and I’m not sure if he might have got a parasite or something from the water. I have an appt today for him at the vet. Has this happened to anyone on her before? Is it normal? Sorry about all the questions.

This sounds like it is a bit longer lasting than what we experienced with Vayda. She used to have short bouts of diarrhea after we had left her alone for longer than normal.....it seems she would get stressed out and that would throw her off balance a bit, but i don't remember it lasting long or keeping us up for that long at night. Good luck let us know what the vet says.

Sorry it took so long to respond. It has been a crazy few days here and i am just getting over a cold. Winston is better now, the vet put him on a bland diet and a special type of canned dog food for the last few days and stuff is getting better. They said they werent too sure what could have gave him the problem but they said his stomach might not be used to certain foods and stuff yet. Sorry again for not getting back to you sooner.

24th.....bang......what a mess.....is better now however when we go anywhere....guess he had to get used to it.....

Try metamucil in his food, 2 tsps twice a day. Worked a miracle for us!

I have to say, I've been doing the Metamucil twice a day for Barney after his bout last week, and it's worked wonders. The only thing is that he seems to have to poop more the last couple of days, and the consistency is sort of....marshmallowy? Gross, and I apologize if I've now ruined marshmallows forever for anyone LOL!
I've only been using one teaspoon twice a day, since he's about 25lbs. I might try and wean him off it a bit and see if I can reduce it more since I'm continuing with the canned pumpkin for extra fibre. |

YAY! So glad it's working for you. It does seem to sometimes make it a bit 'marshmallowy' but Molly is consistently about twice a day but she was more than that as a pup. It really has worked wonders for her tho, she used to be up 6 times a night and would have accidents all the time when left and you could see in her face she was so embarassed and ashamed. Metamucil has been amazing for her, no more accidents or nightly trips out and we've been doing it about a year and a half. We've also reduced it to about 1 tsp twice a day and she's 70lbs.

The frequency has increased for Barney, too - from twice a day to about five times, but more fibre will do that to anyone! But better out than in, I figure

Hello-When my puppies are constipated, I give them the canned pumpkin to get them to going again. When they have diahrea, I give them either a bit of rice or mashed potatoes with a smidge of gravy on it. That seems to work for me. Not sure if that will help or not. (Not sure that anything could ruin marshmallows for me) ![]() |
