well good news I think....Hips and sholders are both fine,he has some muscle wastage on his right front leg which indicates he has some problem there ,although the x-rays showed very little only a slight non alinement of the joint, also no signs of pano in the bones!
next step is for the X-rays to be sent to an Orthapaedic Surgeon, so we should hear in a week or so what he thinks we should do.
Although he certainly has some problems they don't seem to be as bad as I feared,so we all might get a better night's sleep tonight

Old Confused

HELP!!!!

I am a very confused lady today.

I spoke to the surgeon today who wanted to see us ASAP as not only had he picked up on the Elbow Dysplisia but had also noticed a problem with Fynn's sholder and wanted to do more x-rays and a MRI befor deciding on the treatment and asked me to contact my insurance company to foward on an authorisation form, which I did stright away!
Then a few hours later they called me back to say that because my insurance would only cover up to £6000 they think it would be better if we waited and rested him to see how it goes as the sholder problem was an injury which would repair itself in 6-8 weeks anyway!
I then rang my Vet and told him this and he said yes this was probably right as they did not seam too concerned about the sholder and rest and anti inflamatories would be the best option as they very rarley opperate for this problem,I then asked about his Elbows and he said he had been told by the surgeon that the dysplisia was very subtle so again to treat with anti inflamitories and rest and to see how he goes over the next few months as he is still quite young and not to worry about it as no arthritis has set in!
Sorry about the rant but I just feel if I had more insurance cover he would have been in tomorrow for numorus tests, anasthetics and maybe an opperation or two when now £600 is not enough I am told not to worry and rest him surley they would not have put us through all of this worry and stress just for the money Would they????

It almost sounds like the money matters. I think if it was me and going through this, I would insist on another opinion on the elbows. Remember storm has arthritis now because it was left, not nice for storm. if there are fragments in the joint it causes trauma to the joint causing the arthritis. these fragments should come out. storm was 7 months when operated on, how old is your puppy?

I can buy the shoulder thing, not the elbows. also talk to your vet, ask them what they would do if it was their puppy. also go with your feelings, you know your puppy.

good luck

I agree....Get a second opinion. It sounds like this surgeon is more concerned with the amount of money that he can make off of you than he does about your puppy.

Just got Fynn back from the vets,he has been for more X-Rays on his hind legs this time, the vet thought he might have Hip Dysplasia or some Knee problems as he has been quite stiff and running with a 'Bunny hop'they said this may result in an opp to fix the problem.
I had my doubts and asked if this could be Pano as over the last few days he has been very down a bit depressed and panting quite a lot! the vet took his Temp this morning befor the x-rays and confirmed it was slightly elevated (2.6) also his blood tests showed he was slightly anaemic.Anyway when I returned to pick him up I was told that his Knees are fine, his Hips are ok not wonderful but nothing to worry about and there was defanetly signs of Pano in both his back legs (poor boy)
Although I know this can be very painful I am relived that his hips were not as bad as i was expecting, and I can breath a sigh of relief for the first time in weeks and start enjoying him again instead of all the worry
