Hi Lynn, thanks for that! I'll have a look at the website you mentioned. Your Ollie looks gorgeous!

At the moment our Ollie is back on Hills ID dry food as he had yet another bout of diarrhoea. When I finish that I'm going to try him with either Arden Grange or Burns dry food and see how he gets on. I think it might be a case of trial and error in finding the right food for him but hopefully we'll find the right one soon.

hi our 6 month old berner has also suffered with constant bouts of diarrhoea for the last few months we have been really concerned and have had her to the vets more times than i can think! the vets have put her on 4 doses of flagyl which seem to temporarily fix the problem. we have been in touch with the breeder who has been greta help and currently is looking into alternative treatments for us. it seems to only be at night time that molly has diarrhoea the vet thinks this is because of the length of time she has to wait to go to the toilet. im really concerned and don't want to put her on any more antibiotics shes had so many. we feed her dried royal canin giant breed which is the same as the rest of the litter but she is the only one with the problem.

Hi Gemma, thanks for your reply. Ollie is also worse at night with the diarrhoea though it could just be the length of time he has to wait to go. It is a worry isn't it, especially when you don't know what's causing the problem. We're the same as you and have lost count of the number of times we've been to the vets!

I haven't yet contacted Ollie's breeder about the problem but will do in case any of the rest of the litter have a similar problem.

Good luck in finding the right food/treatment for Molly.

Thanks Gemma. Thought it was a very slim chance they could be related! Molly looks gorgeous, so feminine!

It's very reassuring to know other people have had the same problem with their Bernese pups - a bit more common than I realised.

Here, Here, we saw our puppy have these symptoms for 6 months. It appeared when we switched to adult food prior to 1yr old, things improved greatly. We've been using Blue Buffalo & also briefly used California Natural. Lamb & Rice seemed to be the winning combination for us.

Our puppy Pudding has been like this on and off since we've had him too!
We feed Hills science plan large breed puppy and it seems to have done the trick, we do give him a probiotic supliment as advised by our vet called Pro-Kolin that helps a lot.... we just give it him whenever he gets a bit 'loose'
Seems like quite a common problem with berners but with there not being that many berners in the uk the vets dont pick up on this very quickly!
Hope Ollie is better now!

Hi, thanks for your reply. It certainly does seem to be a common problem with Berner pups! We didn't have this trouble with our first Berner pup so I wasn't aware of it till we got Ollie.

Ollie is now 19 months old and huge! We eventually found that Burns Chicken and Brown Rice suited him best and both of our Bernese are on this now as they are both prone to diarrhoea. I also give them Burns Kelties for treats. I think it's just a case of finding the right food to suit your dog - what suits one might not suit another. It took us a long time to get there and we were just worried there was an underlying problem that was causing the diarrhoea.

The only time Ollie gets diarrhoea now is if he eats something he finds when we're out walking in the woods (he's the worlds worst for this!).

Hope that Pudding gets over his diarrhoea - sounds like you're doing all the right things anyway. You'll probably find things improve as he gets a bit older.

Hi,
I was reading about the diarrhoea issues with your dogs. My Yukon had diarrhoea from day one. Finally at 5 months I switched him to a raw diet along with my other dog. Within a day and 1/2 the diarrhoea was gone and has never come back. He loves it. He is 61/2 months now, weighs 59 lbs and looks great. My other dog suffered from ear infections all the time. His ears have cleared up and for a 10 year old dog his teeth look great. I wish I had done it sooner. Good luck with your doggies.
