Old Ear Infection?

Sparrow is a pure bred Bernese mountain dog who will be 2 on July 13
his mother whom i also own has never had an infection and his father was ill a year or so ago but it was a porcupine that got him and his 6 siblings are fine
he eats Old Roy always has
I think Sparrow has an ear infection
he started scratching his ear and whining and shaking he head and he wouldn't let us pet it without whining.
at first that was it no redness, wax, no bugs, and no swelling 2 days later he had swelling we put a warm compress on it 2-3 times a day for a week its still swollen but no pain hes letting us pet it and hes back to moaning in pleasure when we do.
there has been no sign of infection aside from swelling
We cant afford a vet right now as we just moved and bought a fridge just before the infection. so please dont tell us to bring him to a vet and that we are irresponsible to have not done so already.
thank you.
is this an ear infection? and is there a way of making it go way or help till we can get him to a vet.

Ok my first question was what did the vet say.
There are a number if things that could be wrong.
Fleas food allergies something in the environment.
Dies he chew or lick his feet a lot??
You do need a better quality of food and I brlieve that brand had a recall.
A better food may cost more up front but you cal also feed less because of the better quality.
If you buy the same food at a pet shop you may pay more yhan the grain store.
Is there any powdery looking spots in his ears??
Do they smell?
Does one smell different than the other?
It could get a lot worse if he is able to itch it.
They sell what is called ear wash
You squeeze in enough to get a small puddle in the ear
Then rub the ear on the outside near his head.
Wipe out with a soft cloth dont rub.
Next there is an ear drop with an oil that will
Lubricate the ear. If it is ear mites.
All of your dogs will suffer.
You would need to take the 1 dog to the vet and you could treat all at once.
So, better quality food.
Ear wash
Dont ket him itch e-collar if necessary.
He will scratch the ear so bad it will swell and get infected just by itching.
If your dog us licking his feet and the hsir looks a redish color that is a food allergy.
You probably need to get him off all grains.
You can ask at your local pet shop ir better yet feed store. Like I said it can be just about anything. Thise are just a couple ideas.
Ive been there about the money for vets.
I went without so my animals stayed healthy.
We love our pets abd want them healthy
I know this is true for you because you are here risking
Having people yell at you for not getting to the vet.
You might also look up on line
Causes for dog ear itch.
In the meantime, you might bath all your dogs just in case one got in to something.
It can be hard trying to keep them heathy and not have the money. I had 3 kids and pets.
We git by and To support my animals while the kids were at school I went to work at a stable shoveling poop and giving riding lessons.
That supported 13 cats 3 dogs
And 3 horses. Yup I worked my butt off.
But thats me. You might be able to find a way to start a pet fund for your dogs. Every penny helps.
I hope your dog gets better!
Oh, there is also a link I found simething like ask a vet.
They might be able to help.
Bottom line for all of the above
Though will be bring him to be looked at.
Just hd a thought, one if my berners ears would itch uf the hair grew long in it.
Did you ckean the ear??
Is there anything dark gooey??
That would be an ear infection.
The best thing because you dont want to destroy his hearing is to get his ear professionally cleaned out.
The ear washing will help but if his ear us packed with goo it wont get better.
Dont rub his ear and make him moan it only aggrivated and swells the ear canal. Good luck!!
Let me know how he does! Celeste

there is nothing wrong with him aside from the swelling
he has no bugs, redness, smell or brown gunk or dryness
and my dogs are always watched
they haven't even been alone outside as we just moved we don't know the neighbours dogs
I've checked everywhere online and I've checked him for everything as well as my other 2 dogs
and as for food old roy is the only brand i trust all the dogs I've owned have like it and he never been sick on it
any ideas on why it would swell without other signs of infections

Some kind if bite or tumor comes to mind. How long has this been going on??

A spider bite or bee sting can do a number.
If it feels hot it could be an infection.

You shoukd feel around slowly arounf the swollen area to see if there us a scab. It may be very small.

there's no scab
but the spider bite makes some sense as I've seen some around
the swelling has finally gone down a little so maybe its clearing up
and its been about a week

Sounds more promising!!!
Id keep an eye in it anyway.
Last year I brought my westie to the vet because he was acting in pain but not horribly
And his face just didnt look right.
I was afraid my horse kicked him in the face.
2 minutes in the vet she pointed out where he had gotten a bee sting! I felt like an idiot lol
Goid thing I brought him she gave him something to help the swelling and in a few hours
He was much better. Stings and bites can be tricky.

the vets we have arent the best
they write stuff in the file but dont tell me about it
my saint was under weight by about 10 pounds
i asked a million question about why i was told not to worry..... i ended up seeing the file where it said change dog food but was never told... she had worms....
i miss the vet who put down my other saint she had cancer but the vet was nice to the dogs and listened to my worries but i think she moved cause shes no longer there
are there any foods that will help swelling? i know aspirin does (vet agreed with it.. for rebel RIP)
