Old Lime disease ?
Junior Member
Do you guys all get the lime disease shots (or w/e)?

My mom is trying to figure out whether getting him the stuff to fight lime disease is really needed.

In the north east of the U.S. I know there are alot of deer ticks that animals can be given the disease from.

thanks

Our vet just had a long discussion with us about how dogs are being waaay over-vaccinated and talked us out of the Lyme disease vac even though we live in a rural area full of long grass, trees etc. He said there has been only a very few cases of lyme disease in our area (SW B.C. in Canada) and that the risks of the vaccine far outweigh the risks of the disease so maybe you'd want to do the research yourself. We recently switched vets and our old vet was a "by the book" old-fashioned kind of vet while our new vet is always educating himself and keeping current with what the latest data says.

Old lyme disease

Three days after rescuing our BMD we took him to the vet. He was diagnosed as having lyme disease. He had been in the Catskill region of New York State when we adopted him.
We followed the vet's instructions and will have the BMD back in July for a follow-up. It apparantly takes 9 months to determine whether or not the treatment was successful.
I know that, since the treatment, he has been more active and energetic. Time will tell.

I live in Canada, we don't have many cases of lyme disease here. I agree with checking into your vet, our vets decided to take Kennel cough out of there vaccination, evidently taking it out makes the rest last longer, so the animal doesn't need as many vaccinations. If you kennel then get the kennel cough, I didn't care, storm is not or ever will be kenneled.

I was glad because i had a puppy one time that had parvo. I found out that the paro was only good for 6 months not 1 yr like was thought, with the kennel cough out the paro is 1 yr.

I suggest research.

Not to wake such an old post, but what did you end up doing? My berner is almost 9 months old now, and now that it's not too cold (for us humans) or too hot (for the puppy) we've been taking her on nice hikes around our wooded areas. She loves walking off-leash with us on our hikes. although we're usually on trails and keep her out of tall grass, we're still very worried about deer ticks and lymes. She's already had 3 dog ticks on her that we've had to pull out of her skin. I'm located in the worst area for lymes and deer ticks in the U.S. and I would hate for her to contract is, or be deprived of her hikes, because she loves them so much.
So I guess i'm just curious as to what you did, or do. Thanks!
Jeremy

Vaccinations are very important. I think vaccinations are one of the greatest things that you can give to your dog.
