Old Recent lethargy

Hi All,
My 5 month old Berner Truman has been a ball of fire up until a couple of days ago and now is experiencing lethargic behavior. He seems to have a stuffy nose, sleeps constantly and is not at all chewing on us or wanting to play as he typically does. He goes to doggy day care 2-3 times per week and usually needs a day to recover after a few good hours of playing with his puppy friends, but this is quite odd for Truman. As a first-time (nervous!) Berner mom and knowing this breed is prone to health issues, is this something that can be common (ball of fire one day and lethargic for a few days) or should I be concerned?

Any advice or similar experiences is appreciated!
Thanks,
Jill

I am sure it is probably nothing.... But I always say "better safe than sorry". So, if he still is under the weather in the morning, I would call the vet. Keep us posted.

Hi there,

When we got our first berner, our breeder told us you would know when something was wrong with your berner. Well its been true every time. Our girl once swallow a length of rope ....she was lethargic and just plain off for a few days . I think we got VERY lucky that it cam out on its own. She also had a bout of myositis..... and again you could tell she just wasn't right. We got her to the vet right away this time and he was glad we did as it could have caused permanent damage if we didn't treat it quickly.
If the lethargy lasts more than a day or 2 i wouldn't hesitate to get your berner to the vet.
Good luck and hope everything is alright!

Thanks for the responses! My husband and I took Truman to the vet yesterday and he was diagnosed with an upper respitory infection. Poor little man...bringing him to puppy day care is great for socialization, etc., but I suppose it is like a child's day care where they will bring home everything. Ugh. Truman is feeling better today (and looks better too!)

You better go the vet to have a check. I'm a positive person but it's best to be safe.
