Just made Gracies appoinment to get spayed next month. It was a hard decision!

Hope I don't regret it but I guess it should be done. She is 14 months and had her first heat at about 9 months . It lasted 7 weeks which was CRAZY to me. But the vet says it happens

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

If you aren't planning on breeding her, it's less cruel than having her go through heats unable to act on it, in my opinion.

My vet said that new reserach shows spaying before their first heat can greatly reduce ovarian cancer in female dogs? We had Molly done at 6 months and she hadn't had a heat.

Well Gracie goes next week and I'm struggling

My husband keeps pushing the fact it's unnecessary since she is the only dog here.

I'm totally stressing out

It didn't
I totally stressed myself out and finally decided to just do it and thats that. The day gets hear and i get up at 6 am and get all ready and go to get GRACIE and SHE's in HEAT!!!!!!!!

I KNEW it was going to be close and I even spoke to the vet about it but we were hoping she would not go until the first week of July. I wanted to scream!
All i needed was ONE MORE DAY!

So now she is rescheduled in 2 months. So now I have to spend the next two months questioning my decision again.

Just wanted to put in there that my vet WILL NOT spay during the heat cycle. Gracies last heat lasted 6 weeks so that is why her new appointment is so far out.

Booo!! That's rotten timing! I've heard of quite a few vets that won't spay during a heat, so I'm sure there's a medical reason behind it.

If she finishes her heat before 2 months, can your vet move the appointment up?

Maybe it's a good thing in a way, since you weren't at peace with the decision and talk through your concerns with some of the other female Berner owners on here to get some more opinions.

What specifically worries you about it?

The idea of having to go through a 6 week heat would be enough for me to get myself spayed
