I guess I am looking for information or a miracle. Our Bailey will be 5 in December, and is approx. 150 pounds. Recently he developed a limp and became very "lazy" which is very hard to determine, especially in the hot summer weather, as he is normally pretty lazy. I took him to our vet yesterday and he advised that after xray, he had bone cancer in his left hip, at the socket. I was referred to Syracuse Specialty Clinic and took him in the same day. They looked at the xray and agreed with the diagnosis. Recommendation is amputation with chemo follow up.

Aside from looking for a miracle, I guess I am interested in any info you might have on vets, ortho or oncology, that are truly familiar
with the breed. Also anyone that may have had this problem and if they went through with surgery.

Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated. We are just devastated and trying to decide what is best for his quality of life.

I am so sorry you are going through all of this. I wish I did have some good information to share, but I really don't know anything about hip cancer.

What I do know is, that on more than on occasion we thought we would loose our Riley to AM and he surprised us over and over. He just turned 6, and continues to be our Brave , Strong puppy! Even at 6 he is still my puppy !

I think you are doing the right thing by gathering as much information that you can. And I would ask as many questions as you can think of at the vets office. Are they 100% sure that it is cancer? can they tell that from an xray? has it spread? is it a cancer that does spread? That's is how I approach EVERYTHING. ( it drives my husband crazy)

I know this is a really hard time, and I am sure you are busy with Bailey, but please keep us updated. Give Bailey Berner Hugs ! And I will send some good vibes your way !

I wish I had some useful information for you, but I haven't yet faced cancer with a pet. Bernermom offered some thoughtful advice. My thoughts are with you and your Bailey. Keep up the fight...

I'm so sorry you have to face these decisions. I've not had to deal with anything like that thankfully. I think I might even get another opnion. If a third dr said the same thing I guess I would have to believe it. I agree with the other people, I would ask as many questions about the whole process and life afterwards for him. A 150 dog with three legs just seems like it would be so hard and what would his quality of life be? Maybe fine, just wondering. Is there a chance that they don't need to amputate and can just do chemo. I'm sure you have asked all the same questions.
Was that the only symptom you noticed? I always worrys me when mind take a wrong step or seem off. Anyway, please keep us posted and our prayers with you and Baily.
