Old Doesn't eat alot

I was just a bit curious about my Gracies eating habits. She really doesn't eat much. Maybe about 2 cups a day... Once in awhile maybe just a bit more.
I am swearing ahe is always being stubborn and just wanting people food. Some days she might even eat less and maybe only about one cup of food.

That said.... She is not boney and seems perfectly fit. She is about 70-75 lbs at 16 months, but you have to remember she is basically only about german shepherd size in stucture.

Sometimes i start feeling guilty and start feeding her people food( such as meat and veggies) which she WILL gobble those up non stop if i let her, but then she starts looking kind of chubby and flabby

So i guess i'm trying to ask is such a small amount of food just fine if she looks and acts fine? Vet always says she looks good and i think he doesn't believe me when i say how little she eats, but its absolutely true and i can't figure out how she isn't sickly or boney.

It must be a good quality food. How old is she? Storm does not eat a lot either but he is 2 1/2 and not very energetic. If she looks good and is healthy I would be happy with the progress

Molly's the same. About 70lbs and is in really good shape. Her food is high quality and she eats one cup, twice per day. She was about 80lbs at one point and really hurt her wrist. I had her lose 10lbs and her wrist has never bothered her since. I wouldn't push it if she looks the right size and is healthy!

I want to preface what I am about to say with the fact that I have studied nutrition for years, and have never fed my dogs in my adult life processed dog food.....

So with that bias aside.....

When I see dogs eat un-enthusiastically or very little, it is just a very clear sign of how much they dislike their food - they are merely eating enough to sustain themselves. If processed food is all you can provide, then I recommend providing variety and trying other brands, flavors etc. Eating the same overcooked, overprocessed thing is never going to be exciting.

If possible, and in your budget, consider providing what Gracie is showing you she wants - real, whole food. Given that dogs pre-date humans by several thousand years and are carnivores, rest assured that meat is not "people food" - its dog food and this is what she would love to be eating and has already shown her enthusiasm for it.

My paige(14 months) wasn't eating alot either a few weeks ago. Before taking her to the vet I changed her food. I looked up how much protein, calories ect,ect she needed. I now feed her 1 cup dry food(Wellness large puppy) with 6 oz boiled/par boiled chicken in the am and 2 cups dry with 6 oz of the chicken at night. She eats every bit of the food. I noticed that she has gotten taller(26 1/2 inches now and 85 lbs)She is not an active dog plays about 1 hour in am and 1hour in pm but the rest of the time she is happy following me around the house and laying on my feet. The one draw back was her stool became [u]very soft. So I cut out the am chicken. My husband suggested we add rice to the food but I haven't tried that yet. I hope this helps its worth a try.
