Does anyone give their Berners Nylabones to help clean their teeth? I was told that they are better than real bones for teeth cleaning.

DO you mean the plastic or rubbery ones? Molly's had both - the rubber one she used a bit as a pup and the plastic one she's had for 2 years and doesn't really have a lot of interest in it. We find her beef muscle chews and deer antler keep her teeth pretty clean.

I was referring to the hard plastic ones. I've heard of deer antlers but haven't heard of beef muscle chews. Can you tell me a little more and where you buy them? |

I have tried different ones..... But the interest usually lasts about 5 minutes and then they are just left there untouched

We use sterilized bones and will often put peanut butter inside it so he works on that for a while. We have also used a deer antler that we bought at a store and he LOVES that. He will spend a lot of time chewing on it. We have one hard nylabone, but he doesn't stay interested in that for very long. I would say the best we have found is the sterilized bones and the antler. Hope this helps!

We used to get beef muscle chews that were called "moo sticks" but you can't find those in Canada anymore (where I am) so the one I've got her lately is by aron pet Aron Pet Food - Healthy K9, The World's Best Dog Products and I buy them at Bark and Fitz here in Canada. The only thing I find is once it's about 2" long I have to take it away or she'll eat the whole thing
. Other than that they're great, I usually give it to her in half hour stints and just try to make sure she uses both sides of her mouth to clean all her teeth. |

My Bear is about 14 months now and has always been an aggresive chewer - no toy with stuffing last more than 30 minutes in the house. I purchased two Nylabones (one that looks like a tree branch and another that looks like a bone), and Bear loves them. He pulls them out all the time to chew on them - so much so that I'm purchasing him 2 more for Christmas because it's probably time to retire the old ones. So I guess some dogs take to them and some do not...
