Hi,
it looks like Fynn has to have an opperation on his 3rd eye lid as instead of being flat it is scrolled .it dose'nt bother him much he does'nt rub it or scratch it but can look red at times,His Vet tells me that it needs to be opperated on to stop him getting infections. Has anyone had any experiance with this as I cant seem to find much info around? Thanks in advance. ![]()

I am not sure what this means and is not a diagnosis per se. I would highly recommend you consult a canine opthamologist in your area to determine whether surgery is necessary. This may help you identify one in the UK: http://www.bordercollieclub.com/pdf/...-examiners.pdf Some eye conditions should absolutely be surgically corrected, such as entropian in this breed. Others like Persistent Pupillary Membrane is not typically operated on.....so it really depends on the true condition. Whatever it is, a general vet is not qualified to determine this as I would never allow my regular doctor to tell me I need surgery on my eye - without seeing an eye specialist. Good luck! |

well we have been to see the specilast tonight and she recommends Fynn has the opp...his third eye lid cartlidge is scrolled and needs to be sorted to stop infections.
It doesnt seem like too big of an opperation, but I'm still thinking about it ![]()

just found this might help others..........
Scrolled cartilage, or cartilage eversion This condition is less common than ‘cherry eye’ and affects young giant breed dogs, usually during the rapid growth phase. The third eyelid has a T-shaped cartilage within it, to provide some rigidity. One small area of the T grows abnormally fast, so that the cartilage becomes bent, everted or ‘scrolled’. This results in the whole third eyelid becoming scrolled so that it appears as a pink to reddish mass in the corner of the eye. A scrolled cartilage can appear very similar to a ‘cherry eye’ and examination under general anaesthesia may be necessary to distinguish the different conditions. As with ‘cherry eye’, there is no medical treatment to correct the abnormal cartilage and an operation is required. The operation is straightforward as the abnormal part of the cartilage is identified, dissected free and completely removed. Recurrence is highly unlikely in the same eye.

Now that you have a second opinion, and ideally from an opthamologist.....if surgery is the consensus, then this is the right way to go. I hope you can swing it and get it done for him as he will surely benefit. Rachel |

Home all safe and sound feeling a little bit sorry for himself at the minute though
![]() It was a little bit mor complicated thanthey first thought all of the 'T' of the third eye lid was deformed so they had t remove most of it butthey tink it was sucsessful but time will tell. Keep your fingers and toes crossed for us ![]()
