Old Slippery Kitchen Floor

I've had my Bernese since Monday, and our one problem is something I hadn't even considered. She slips on my kitchen floor. It is fairly slippery; I've gone skiing a few times myself. Even the cats have slipped a few times on a chase turn. But with her size, she lies down on it and has trouble getting up, legs slipping all over as she tries to get them under her. This clearly scares her. Perfectly fine on the carpet or outside; it's just that one room's floor. I can't shut that room off, as there is no kitchen door. She won't stay out of the kitchen as she follows me in. I've got a throw rug, but it gets tangled up and bunched under her as she tries to stand.

Is there any pet-safe product I can use on the floor to give it purchase for her?

Thanks!

Hi there

We had a similar problem with Ollie, our Berner when he was younger. We have wooden floors throughout the house and if he ran indoors, he ended up skidding all over the place! We were worried he would end up injuring himself.

Ollie's breeder told us about a product called Paw Wax which is made by a company called Shaws (based in Britain). You apply it direct onto your dog's paws and it stops them slipping. It can also be used outdoors when it's icy outside. The company's website is www.shawspet.co.uk. I don't know where you live but hopefully you should be able to order it on-line even if you stay outwith the UK.

Hope that's some help. Let us know how you get on!
