Hello you all dear Berner Owners....

This is my fist toppic in this site.

I've asked this problem at so many sites to every dog owners.... Iwanted to ask this to same breed owners.. My question is why my dog is not barking?

She is 2 years old female and pure breed... She lived with a male neighbour dog witch barking for everything... She should bee learned to bark... I can't figure out why she is too quiet...

Some times when I come out to garden she is starting to make noise like crying or shouting.

I am waiting for your answers. Thanks a lot by now.

If my grammar is bad, sorry about that..English is not my main language

First of all, Welcome to Bernertalk!

Have you EVER heard her bark??? I had a chow that only barked about 5 times in 13 years, so maybe she is just the quiet type???? lol Our Berner, Riley BARKS! but he also makes some crazy noises that sound like he is trying to talk too! If you have never heard her bark before, ask you vet...maybe there is some medical reason that she cant actually make a barking sound. Maybe the noise you hear is her "bark".

we already asked to vet.. And he said" really strange" to her

Bernie maybe barked for 40 times at 2 year. but when she saw a dog she is barking because of her jealous behaviour. She don't likes other dogs.. But other times she is just making noise like talking..The strange one is; when I say "talk" she is making noise and yelling, "" but when I say "bark" she is just ignoring....

That means that we have to get used to about this...

Actually, according to one of my many books on Berners, it is a breed characteristic that they tend not to bark. They express themselves more through body language.
My 3-year-old female barks maybe once or twice a year - very rarely.

I have a 9 month old berner and he NEVER barks...not even for a treat. The only time he ever barked like crazy was when I left him with my parents for the weekend so I could go on my honeymoon and they crated him at night, I forgot to tell them that he sleeps in our bed and boy was he put out! I was kind of dissapoined at first when I learned he wasn't a barker (because his bark is so darn cute), but after visiting people with dogs who bark nonstop I consider it a blessing.
