I recently transitioned my dog (very slowly) from Hill's I/D (he has a sensitive stomach and is prone to diarrhea) to TOTW pacific stream. He has been on the new food exclusively for about a week and I've noticed that his stools are soft. They're formed and I can pick them up but definitely soft. I'm wondering if this is a natural outcome of a new food and it will take some time for his system to adjust.

It could be that. It seems like a lot of Berner owners have noticed issues with softer stool, especially in puppyhood. You could try adding canned pumpkin (not the pie filling, but the canned pumpkin that you'll find right next to the pumpkin pie filling) or a teaspoon of Metamucil to your pup's food. Another member suggested that on another thread, and it's worked like a dream for us!

Bailey's is the same. We're just riding it out and seeing if it corrects itself as she grows.

We've done the metamucil. Molly is 2 now and we're down to 1tsp 2x /day. We tried taking her off of it and the diarrhea came back. It's worked wonders for her!

If the dog is having diarrhea, you better feed the dog with zinc supplements.

I think it's part of puppyhood. Ours finally got past the "soft serve ice cream-like" stools after about a 10 months. Switching to a grain-free food also helped. Good luck. |

I switched my Berner to a raw diet after 5 months of diarreha and soft poops with the help of a friend who has fed raw for many years. Within 2 to 3 days all his digestive issues cleared up. It's been alittle over a year now and he hasn't had any problems since. I got another Berner who is 6 months old and has been on raw since I brought him home at 8 weeks. He has never had the digestive problems my other one did. It takes alittle work and some education to make sure it's balanced but sooooooooooooooooo worth it in my book. Katie |

Same thing going on with my 9 mo Olaf. We tried several high-end foods and finally went with the breeder's suggestion of Royal Canin which helped but canned pumpkin completely cleared it up.

Hi, I really like the canned pumpkin. I usually give a large tablespoon after each meal. They love it. THinks it's a special treat. |
