Hi guys. I've had Finnegan for about 5 weeks, and he's 15 weeks old. I'm just wondering how old your puppies were when they were completely housebroken.
Finn does pretty well, but has about an accident or two a week. What do you think? Does this seem about right for his age and my 5 weeks of training? Thanks! |

With my foster puppy, I have her on a schedule. That really helps. I watched her constantly, and when I can't, I put her in her kennel. I allow her to have a bunch of potty breaks throughout the day.
I did the same with Shiloh and Delilah when I was potty training them. My foster pup has only had 2 accidents in the house, and they were both my fault.

We were really lucky with Barney, because he's only had two accidents in the house - once when he was having stomach problems (probably from something he ate on a walk - sneaky little bugger), and once when he was left alone for a longer time than usual.
However, we did crate train him. I think that made a lot of difference, because he just wasn't given the opportunity to potty inside the house. I agree with Jessalyn - a schedule is so important. If your puppy knows what to expect, Finnegan will hold it since he'll know a planned potty break is right around the corner. |
