Im a first time Berner owner and perhaps a little over concerned because of the health issues associated with the breed. My 12 week old pup has been a little unsettled for the last few days. He's woken up in the middle of the night to puke up bile and hours after he eats he pukes up his food but back down the hatch it goes. He had a couple of soft stools but for the most part its pretty normal as far as dog poop goes. And he has a normal appetite. He's eating all sorts of grass and plants in the back yard ( I do my best to stop him but he can be sneaky) and I'm wondering if his stomach issues can be attributed to this? Is it cause for concern? Vet visit perhaps?

I'm not a specialist of bernese mountain but i know that eating all sorts of grass or plants isn't good for the health of your dog. His stomach is affected. I advise you to take care because the health of bernese moutain is delicate.
If you must, ban him the yard the time that the transit get better. Does not change the food and after a few days, i think that puppy will get better. Otherwise, you can see a vet to reassure you. ![]()

I would definitely say it's because of the plants. Molly was always trying to get into our hydrangeas which is one that is poisonous for dogs and I ended up having to put plywood over them so she couldn't get at them. How many times are you feeding her a day. I found with Molly when she was a puppy if her stomach got really empty she would throw up bile. So we gave her 3 small meals a day and a snack before bed- just a handful and we noticed she was no longer getting sick in the night. What kind of food are you feeding? Have you recently changed or changed water?

Hello,
Congrats on your new puppy! I would call you vet up and describe the symptoms to them. It could be a number of things, Diesel puked up bile for a whole night once and in the morning ended up puking up a sock. This terrified me because it could of been a potential blockage in his intestines. But after the sock incident he was a lot better and I was a lot more careful! They will eat ANYTHING! Good luck let us know how your pups doing! |

Good luck let us know how your pups doing! Thanks to you guys for the concern and helpful advice. Auggie seems to be fine now. He's stopped eatings things he shouldn't and back to his normal playful self. I'm not sure what it was but I slowly switched his food from a pretty normal kibble brand ( what he was fed before we got I got him) to an organic food which he loves. No more grass and plants. Life is good! Thanks again. This website is a most excellent resource. |
