I don't mind any advice anyone wants to give! Right - small wouldn't be a problem - we have a 16 pounder, a 46 pounder, a 56 pounder and whatever Samson ends up being - so it's a lot. I definitely agree with real food - we do that for ourselves. Poor husband will never get to retire! LOL

[quote=motomom;3209]I agree with Rachel. You have to be very careful with the calcium/phosphorus ratio. It can get expensive but I have a few friends and we all go in together to buy bulk from a butcher. We'' buy 800-1000 lbs of meat at a time. I have two freezers that I pack full so the price is much better.

My girl Gracie was a skinny sickly runt. She was only a out 10 pounds at 9 weeks and jumped to 20 pounds by 13 1/2 weeks. . I started at 14 weeks giving her taste of the wild food and adding egg and some extras once a day to her meals to help beef her back up to a normal UNSKINNY weight. She now is almost 2 and about 80 pounds and is perfect

Old really puzzled by weight/height

I'm really wondering about Samson - the nearest I can figure from trying to measure him he stands 14" at the shoulder - he looks stocky. But his weight yesterday at vet was 14 pounds. (this is probably at 11 weeks) Even German Shepherds at his age weigh more and don't look as wide! Most of what I read has weight in pounds being considerably more than height in inches. I'm starting to wonder if his bones are hollow! He is eating some raw, some canned - Taste of the Wild and blue Buffallo and also Blue Buffallo large breed puppy dry. He is energetic and vet thinks healthy. Not knowing for sure what breeds he has in him it is so puzzling.

Gracie is the average stocky build.

She also had a ton of saggy skin when she was underweight and puny as a baby. It was like the skin grew and the "inside" of her didn't fatten out to fill up the skin i used to call her my little sharpei because of all her saggy skin

Given everything you have shared and the added pictures really do help - I am positive you have an Aussie there. Now whether he is pure Aussie or mixed with Border Collie remains to be seen, but there is no doubt he is Aussie.

Your pics show the smaller trangular ear that rolls forward and this is your absolute telltale sign. Couple that with the thin muzzle, the weight and bone you describe and there is no doubt you have a 40-55 lb dog there.

Every experienced Berner person I have shown this pic to confirms Aussie.

I hope that helps you feel some clarity about how to raise him....he looks adorable.

Rachel
