Hi there,

Any recommendations for a good vacuum cleaner that can handle Berner fur? I currently have the Shark specifically for pets, but I think that has seen it's better day. I cannot get over how much fur these guys shed in a day....it's tough to keep up

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi, the amount of hair Bernese shed is crazy, isn't it? And it just floats across the floor... I use a Dyson Animal vacuum once every day or sometimes every 2 days, depending on my energy level! It works beautifully to clean up after our 1.5 year old Bernese and cat. The amount of hair that it picks up is incredible - I have to empty the canister (see-through) every time I vacuum. It has attachments for cleaning stairs and sofas, and they work quite well. So I would definitely recommend it.

After having multiple types of vacuums and steam cleaners, including three different Dysons I can tell you that so far the best I have found is Electrolux...specifically the Ultra Active.

It puts all of my Dysons to shame. The fact is, no matter how great they make Dyson suction, attaching it to a tiny plastic roller inhibits the hair pick up and when I would use my Dyson and then steam clean the carpets, I was always cleaning and repairing the steam cleaner because it picked up scores of undetectable hair the Dyson was missing.....not so with the Electrolux.

There are even better vaccums depending on your budget - if you want to splurge on a Miele for example...that is a good way to go but with traditional bags. If you want easy dumping, bagless, Electrolux has won hands down so far in our house - our dogs + Foster dogs.

I have both a dyson(purple) and an electrolux( the two piece kind with the base unit and the wand handle with the motor head). While I like the lightness of my electrolux I find the purple dyson does the best job and has more "oomph".

Guess I should add i have the ORIGINAL purple dyson with the wheels and not the rollerball
