Old Choice of Pet

What are your considerations in choosing a pet, say between a cat and a dog?

And if you choose a dog, what breed of dog and why?

I have a lot of experience with dogs, but I've never had a cat. So I usually stick to what I know.

When choosing a dog, I always consider whether they will be able to live outside. Because of certain circumstances, I am not able to keep a pet inside the house. Some dogs need a LOT of attention, whereas others can be left alone at times.

I think that's the main thing I consider.

Like you I prefer dogs to cats because I feel that cats are too self-centered. I pick dogs based on temperament - playful, gentle and love children

I like dogs because they can be trained to help out. A cat pretty much runs the house!

Both animals have their good points.

A cat is great because they require little care compared to a dog, but a dog expresses more loyalty.

It's true, Sage, cats aren't loyal. Mine left a while back and then just showed back up about two months later! Unfortunately, she was pregnant when she returned.

I really like both cats and dogs but prefer dogs because I grew up with them. When I was in university I had a cat though and really grew to love them as well. They're much easier to care for usually so if you don't have a lot of time to be home they're a good option for a pet.

When I was a teenager I was a cat lover. For the past twenty years, I have been a dog lover and only own dogs. They live for their owners and bring a lot to our lives.

I simply prefer dogs over cats any time of the day. I guess it's because I grew up with dogs as pets and the only time we had a cat, it was really a disaster!

Yes I also prefer dogs for the above reasons. I also think that cats are too self centered. They are always busy with their own world.
