Hi All,
So, my berner has very heavy breathing. If we go on even a 15-20 minutes walk, he lies down afterwards and pants for a good 30 minutes. Eventually he stops, but sometimes it's not even after a walk, he just pants a lot. The house has air conditioning so I dont think it it cause of the heat. Is this something common, or should I be worried? ![]() Thanks, Carmelina & Bozly. |

Hi Carmelina,
How long has this being going on and is it just heave breathing or does he make a snoring sound as well, not that I am an expert but a Girl I work with has a berner with a problem similar to this her berner is 2 yr old how old is Bozly. Our Pup (7 Months) pants a lot especially at night but he has been diagnosed with 'Pano' and on a bad day he is ready for some pain relief by bed time, hence the panting.

Bozlys been breathing like that since I've had him. I asked the vet and she said that he is probably just tired out, but it worries me because it is still going on and hes 8 months now. Pano? Do you give gim meds for that? It's just heavey breathing/pants...no snoring noise.

yes Fynn is a bit like that too!
![]() I did a bit of reserch and found Dogs only pant for a few reasons....stress,infection,pain,exersion,heat and bearing in mind we live in the North of England we don't get much heat I asked the vet she, checked his temp and yes it was elivated but blood tests showed there was no infection,x-rays then showed he had Pano which is growing pains in the long bones of his back legs not nice for my baby but the good news is he will grow out of it but it could take a few months.Maybe you should visit your vet and have him checked over after all you know your puppy and if you are not happy then best play safe and have him checked over if only to put your mind at rest. Please let me know how he gets on take care x

Always best to check with a vet.....
That said.... My older girl pants all the time. When she was under one it was worse but now has eased up as she has gotton older. I used to always think she was about to die and was always googling and making myself crazy. Vet eased my mind and now I just tell her to knock it off when it starts to drive me crazy. HAHAHAHA.... my goofy dog actually stops when I fuss at her |
