The best pet insurance, depending on your country, is PetPlan - these are the best priced and best covered including cancer, and congenital issues - both huge problems in this breed. They will also accept Berners up to age 5 and are generous in covering alternative/holistic treatments.

As for size, this depends on the amount of substance/bone the dog has and so general weight comparisons are of no value. Many of our poorly bred dogs have little bone for exampel and look more like a golden retriever in a tri coat - so these dogs weigh much less than the breed standard.

The key to weight management is to insure no more than 2-3 lbs of weight gain per week during growth. There are two growth spurts in the breed that may result in slightly higher gains for a 1 week period each, but proper growth should be limited to 2 lbs per week ideally.

Does anyone know any reliable pet insurance company? I'm afraid to get scammed.
