Berners typically reach their maximum height at about 1 year of age (12-14 months) - this means their legs are done growing although it can continue longer (which is why the OFA does not do full ortho certifications until 2 years of age). Full growth however includes the chest widening, and dropping and the head continuing to change and this happens through years 3-4. For this reason, this and other large breeds are not considered mature until 2 years of age....and actually it is 3-4 when you see their look and coat fully mature. All of this of course presumes a proper diet that is neither depleting critical nutrients or growing the dog too fast through too many calories and fat. |
