Hi there! My name is Ashley, and I'm a Canadian living in Texas with my 2 berner boys, 1 year old Charlie and 2 year old Max.

I also have 2 skin-kids, 11 year old Taylor and 2 year old Lukas, and hubby Joe.

Cant wait to hear about everyone's berner buddies!!

thanks for the welcome! I've been struggling with some health issues on my 2 but with any luck (fingers crossed) we're going to be sorted out soon.

I'd love to hear about yours!!

What sort of health issues currently?

I haven't actually gotten mine yet. I bring him home in 3 weeks!

I practically raised a berner though as he was the first one i ever fell in love with at a dog daycare i used to work for. I became friends with the owner and treated him like my own dog.

He passed away a few months ago at the age of six. He had addisons disease as well as a thyroid problem.

I have done lots of homework and researched my breeder and so far they have never had any issues with all 12 of their berners. So fingers crossed!

Welcome. I found this place last week. I am going to be getting my first Berner in January. I can't wait and glad I found this place. I hope the membership here continues to grow.

i am in a yahoo group about Berners, but its too hard to sort through all the different messages and topics. The format here is much better.

Spread the word to anyone you know who loves Berners so this place grows and grows.

Charlie, my 1 year old, has alot of stomach and intenstinal problems... he cant seem to fight off anything so its always giardia or coccidia or colustridium, something giving him an upset tummy. Fingers crossed, we have him sorted out now and on some additional supplements that should help strengthen his defenses.

Max, our 2 year old, has idiopathic focal seizures. The meds generally prescribed for this have some side effects we are hoping to avoid so we are testing out some holistic treatments first. We just received the supplements in the mail for him last night, so fingers crossed that they work!!!

Sounds like you've found yourself a great breeder!!! what state are they in?

Old Berners in B.C?

Hey fellow Canucks!
gosh, the only fellow Berner owners I ever met in B.C! (well, besides any dog related to my 2) Why don't we figure out a meeting place! My inlaws are in Victoria and of course, I love going in to the city of Vancouver. We live in the rural hillsides of beautiful Chilliwack and have 2 gorgeous Berners, a 3 y.o. girl and 1 1/2 y.o. boy. We've had lots of health issues with our poor Shady, but Leo is a healthy boy who takes daily hikes in the hills to curb his enthusiasm. We have good friends locally with a Berner too (that we walk with daily) and are happy to share any advise we can offer. Hope to hear from you!
Liz
