At DrawtheDog.com, cartoonist Jim George just created a new series of breed-specific, color cartoon designs. So far, he has one each for Labs, Danes, Greyhounds and German Shepherds.
Now, Jim wants to create a Bernese Mountain Dog design. He wants to capture the spirit and personality of Berners, in the same way he did with these: Lab: Lab - a full color Draw the Dog cartoon inspired by hundreds of Lab stories Golden: Golden - a full color Draw the Dog cartoon inspired by 194 Golden Retriever tales (approximately) Dane: Dane - a full color Draw the Dog cartoon inspired by hundreds of Dane stories GSD: GSD - a full color Draw the Dog cartoon inspired by countless German Shepherd stories I'm co-founder of Draw the Dog, and we would really appreciate your ideas, stories and suggestions - so we can create an amazing Berner color cartoon. What makes these dogs unique? |

well, I think they are very funny. they are jokesters. and they are just to smart. the other day my husband gave storm a treat out of the bucket, he just let the lid drop. storm went to the bucket, lifted the lid with his nose, grabbed his treat and let the lid drop, he then ate it and decided he wanted another and did the same thing. He does the same with his kibble, he grabs the measuring cup brings it to your feet and drops it. they are so loyal as well. allways happy to see you and will follow you everywhere. |

I've met two of these dogs recently. Eat of them sat on my feet, and stayed there. I thought that was pretty funny.

they have to be close to you. storm is either on me or laying by my side or on my feet.

We are brand new Berner owners but the leaning/sitting on you is a riot. They have no clue as to their size and they MUST touch you. It's adorable!
SUPER friendly and sweet and always wagging the tail. Love them already! |

Here's a snapshot of my Berners. (a 4 y.o. girl and 2 y.o. boy)
They love to lay with their heads between their paws watching me, they don't move their heads, rather their eyes roll around watching my every move. They love to lay in a central spot so they can stay put (they are lazy to the nth degree) and watch me working around the house/yard. My male Berner will always come and sit either on my feet or leaning against me if I ever stop to talk to anyone at the dog park or if visitors come to the house. It's very much a Berner trait to sit on owner's feet. Although Berners are not droolers (they are "dry mouthed" dogs) , when I am getting their breakfast or dinner or getting out a treat, they drool so much, they form a "drool pool"! Yuck! But kinda cute too! They eat so enthusiastically, their ears fly around to and fro, then they lick their bowls clean, lick each other's bowls clean and then go back to their own bowls to ensure no crumbs left. (if we fed them what they wanted, they would weigh 300 pounds each!) They love to cock their heads in a very endearing way like they understand what I am saying (maybe they do!). (when I'm at the park, towards the end of the walk, I say, "Anyone hungry? Breakfast anyone?" and they cock their heads and then start RUNNING for the truck!) They adore snow, roll in it, eat it, go absolutely crazy in it. Love to lay on anything cold. Will ignore the lovely, comfy plush, multiple-layered dog bed in favour of the cold concrete garage floor any day of the week. When they wag their tails, their whole body goes back and forth. Whenever they get wet from rain or snow, the hair on their ears looks like I've taken a crimping iron to it. Their tails knock everything on the coffee table over, full cups of coffee, full mugs of beer, and also 2 year old toddlers. They shed LOTS, but it's the "dust bunny" kind of shedding. They love to have their bellies rubbed (doesn't every dog?) They are the best dogs in the whole world! |

I have the honor of sharing my live with Gilligan, a six month old freight train of a dog. Gilligan is eager to make friends with any living creature or person. And he does so with great enthusiasm. When Gilligan meets or greets a fellow human
, he gives them a very strong nudge with his big dark wet nose right in their behind. Thats how Gilligan says "Hi there, nice to meet ya".![]() |

Powerful, beautiful, confident, outgoing, and a bit of a prankster. Just draw that in one big fluffy black, rust and white bundle of joy.
