Hello Everyone!
My husband and I have an almost 3-year-old male Lab mix (imagine a 55 lb golden retriever, but brown, not gold!) named "Coda," and have loved the Berner breed forever. Well, we just rescued a 6 month male Berner named "Jackson" (weighing in at 63 lbs)... but we call him "Jax"! The daycare that we bring Coda to acquired Jax from a lady who couldn't take care of him (she wasn't experienced and got in over her head with a large-breed puppy) and the daycare was helping to re-home him. So, one thing led to another, and he came home with us on Friday night (Jan 22)! We're so excited to have him here, and he's fitting in very well. He's already house trained and he knows basic commands. I'm familiar with the breed (although have never owned one) and am a very experienced dog owner. I've come to this forum to seek some advice on the breed, and am looking forward to your thoughts! Thanks for having me and nice to meet you all!! Sarah, Todd (husband), Coda (lab mix) and Jax (Berner) |

Congrats on the new addition! He is very handsome! Looks like he is going to be a big boy!
You are going to love having a Berner. They are phenomenal! They are people pleasers, and always want to be with you. Not just with you, but touching you. You probably already know this though! They are very very smart, just stubborn. You do have to have patience with them. Look through some of the old post here, I am sure you will find all kinds of good info. Again, congrats on the new baby! and Welcome to Bernertalk! |

Thank you bernermom! We do love him already. Earlier today, Coda was sleeping against my right foot and Jax had claimed my left foot as his pillow. He is quite stubborn and doesn't like to come back inside after going outside to potty. I think he'd rather live out there in the snow! So, I had to put treats on each stair until he made it all the way up, but after a few days of coaxing with treats, he's finally coming up on his own, with just one treat waiting for him at the top. But, after 3 days together, he's finally getting the point that I'm going to win no matter what, and he's starting to be OK with that!
I'm glad I found you guys, I think I will need you!! |
