Hi I am Wyatt From NH I have a two year old Berner and thought I might want some friendly advice through the years. Rascal, my Berner is 29 in. and has already scared off a bear with my other dog, a 7 year old Newfoundland. It will be a pleasure meeting you all here.

Hi! Glad to have you here. A bear??? I think our Riley would probably faint if he saq a bear! lol You have a lot of DOG on your hands with a Berner and a Newfie! We have never had a Newfoundland, but talked about it over the years. They are beautiful dogs! The few that I have met had a lot of the same personality traits that our Riley does.

Would love to see some pics of both. Again, welcome to the site.

We don't have bears in Nebraska but may be moving to bear country this summer and I worry about that. I'd heard that barking and aggression from dogs actually aggravates the bears. How did your dogs react? Had they seen one before? Were they running free or on leads?

We had a similar experience with our 126 pound rescued BMD. Black bears, moose etc. are constantly walking through the yard as we back up on the Green Mountain National Forest.
Since our adoptee has been with us, he barks at the window and has warded off our wild invaders.
This summer we'll be hosting at a campground in Alaska and hope he can do the same with grizzlies!
