We got Teddy when he was 7 weeks old and he was our first BMD. He was 1 year old in February and he is such a wonderful dog!

It's interesting to hear about other BMD owners ( on here and also on facebook) as Teddy is just like that. He thinks he is a lapdog, he leans against you, sits on your feet , all to get closer to you. He tries to sit on us, bit by bit as though we wont notice lol! He is full of personality!

When you play with him, he will play fetch etc like mad and then all of a sudden sit down and just look at you, staring at you with those big eyes saying enough I need to rest!

He is very sweet and laid back, a faithful and happy friend and I know its the breed , but he is special. We have always had dogs and I have loved them all , but BMD are different and I am so glad I was persuaded to have him ( I thought he may be too large!)

The only thing that I find odd is how he is very very shy of any new people, he wont let them go near him and he seems afraid of them. He is getting better compared to how he was when he was little, but I am not sure what to do to help him?

Hi ! Glad you found us

Riley will be six this summer and he still is a bit stand-offish when he meets someone for the first time. He isn't one to just run up to a stranger wagging his tail. He seems to look to me or to my husband to see what our reaction to the person is going to be. I just chalk it up to his quirky personality.

Hi

Thanks! I would if maybe it's a trait of BMDs. Teddy too looks for reassurance and will stop barking if we seem to be welcoming the stranglers ( he doesn't bark madly) but he doesn't like people he doesn't know to come near him.

He's better when he's out and about, it's more when he's at home.

Storm was stand offish till he realized that people give pets and treats. We have a store here that welcomes dogs and the workers have treats. we took him in there every week and he learned people are cool.

I guess i'm lucky, he is no where near standoffish, Mr social butterfly he is.

My Dixie is 14 months old and still very shy as well. It is funny though, because sometimes I think she will be very shy with someone, and then she's not! Sometimes I feel a little funny about it because I have never had a "standoff-ish" dog before and it seems strange. She looks so cuddley (which she is with us!) but then backs away from people. She is also afraid of other things, like any unexpected noise--she startles easily! We have been working with her and she is better than she was, but still not great in that area. We are thinking of taking her to "Shy Dog" class at our local animal training center. Other than that, she is the BEST dog ever and we love her so much! BMD's are wonderful!!

Teddy - what a pretty name! Can I ask where you got him from? I am trying to find good breeders in the UK - I've got a list but not many in pup or those that are there are HUGE waiting lists... I am ok waiting a few months I just don't want to wait years and years

Teddy is gorgeous - I've just checked out the pics.
