Hi there

My name is Nicole... And our new Berner baby is Memphis. Memphis came to us by way of Kentucky a little over 2 weeks ago. Memphis will be 11 weeks old on Tuesday. He is a very silly big boy and weighs nearly 17 lbs. We have nearly mastered sit, wait, and come commands! I'm in shock. Potty training is going really well, and he adjusted to a crate after about 1.5 weeks....but now he is sleeping through the night with no potty needs for 7 hours.... Thank goodness.

Congrats on your new addition! It sounds like Memphis is well on his way to being a very well-behaved young man.

Our "baby" is 4.5 months and weighs 45 pounds! Take lots of pictures because they seem to grow daily.

*Curious, since you got him in KY, are you in the Midwest? I'm in Indiana and have yet to meet anyone other than the breeder that has a Berner. It would be great to meet someone for a playdate...

Thanks! I'm amazed by how fast he is growing.... And your pup is growing up so quick too.

I live in southern California... We just happened to go to the Berner show in Cali and found a breeder who recommended a breeder... I do understand what you mean about not meeting other Berner owners, we never see berners here in so cal.

How did you come about getting your Berner? Had you had one before?

Wow! That's is a long trek, but I'm sure he's worth it!

I had never had a BMD, nor had I ever come in contact with anyone who had one. I fell in love with the breed years ago simply by research and when our rescued German Shepherd passed away, I knew I needed another "big dog." I thought I wanted a GSD, but once I began my search, realized that I was comparing them all to Braska. My husband and I decided to go a completely different route - which led me back to the Berners.

I assumed they were WAY out of our price range and that I would have a hard time finding a good breeder, but was very pleasently surprised to find a breeder here in Indiana, just 1.5 hours from us which is fantastic. To top it off - they are really great people!

I had contacted Sam's breeder months ago (for a different reason) but decided to make an appointment to go up and physically meet the dogs and see if they were as wonderful as I suspected... and I wasn't disappointed! My husband and I decided on the way home that YES we wanted a Berner... and we wanted Sam.

I had my heart set on a petite girl (before we met the dogs) but once we laid eyes on Sam, it all changed. He's wonderful, and goofy - perfect, really, for our family.

Every time people find out what kind of dog I have, I hear "Oh my gosh! I've always wanted one of those!" or "Wow! I love those dogs!" or "Huh? What is it again?"

I think that's actually really neat... I like having a rather unique breed for our area. Makes me feel "special" - LOL
