Hi All Berner Lovers!
Just came across your site while searching for "bernese forums" on google. Nice to know there are lots of like-minded people out there. A little about us and our new Bernese, Della. We're an English family with two teenage sons now living and working in the French Alps. We got Della from a local breeder just over a month ago. She is now nearly 5 months old and absolutely gorgeous - everything we had hoped for from the breed and more . She is our first dog, so we've got lots of questions and experiences to share. We did a lot of research into what dog was going to be best for us as we run a ski chalet and have lots of adults and children coming and going, so we had to be sure that Della was going to be very sociable. Fortunately she seems to be displaying all the breed characteristics of loving attention and being around people. She also looks great against a mountain backdrop and can't wait for the snow to arrive! We've decided to see if we can train her to be bilingual so she can take commands from both our english guests and the french locals (if she was ever off the lead in public). Any thoughts on how best to achieve this would be welcomed! ![]() Looking forward to hearing from everybody. ![]() |

Hi and Welcome! Della looks like a sweetheart
! I am sure you have your hands full right now though. The "puppy months" can be over whelming at times! Good luck with the bilingual training. I can't even imagine how to go about that. You might have to call the "Dog Whisperer" lol But if it really is possible, then I am sure a Berner could pull it off. Besides the bilingual training, how is the rest of your training going? From our experience, Riley was really stubborn at times, and it took a lot of patience , but they are really smart and always eager to please their owners. Also, once they learn something, they dont forget it. I look forward to hearing all about Della and cant wait to see the pics of her in the snow!

Thanks for the welcome - great to be here! Well we had our first snowfall of the season out here last night and introduced Della to the white stuff first thing this morning - she was just fascinated and loved burying her nose in it! ![]() As requested here are some pics of Della enjoying the snow... ![]() ![]() ![]() |
