Hi Amelie! Welcome to the board I love how many different countries are represented on here!

Barney has been my first dog, and he's been great. He learns very quickly, and housebreaking was so much easier than I thought it would be. He can be stubborn, and he talks back and grumbles sometimes, but he's a relatively low-energy pup who seems to like just spending time lying at our feet more than anything.
He's also been very good with our cat.

Thank you for your answer. Yes the cultural diversity is fantastic I'm here also for that.

You have always your dog ? Do you work during the day ? I ask that because I will work the day and I have read on forums that the dog is unhappy without his master.

Welcome, you must be so excited to get your puppy!
With Molly she's always been fairly active so it was important for us to find an outlet for her energy. I work during the day and she would stay home- I made sure to walk her every morning and evening. When she was a puppy I got her used to being alone- even if I was home she would go in her crate for an hour in the day with the bedroom door shut so she got used to being alone. Enjoy your new addition!

Hello!

I own a Berner mix. My next dog will be a rescue Beagle, but I do plan to adopt a Berner in the future. I just love the breed!

Hi!!

Thank you Sa1821 for this information. I'm somewhat reassured. I think it's necessary to learn them to be alone. Obviously, it will walk with us often.
Your dog hasn't done damage to your house while your absence ?

Hi Dlilly, yes it's a breed so cute and lovely. It's full of affection !!

Our pup has been on his own for most of the day most days since he was about 10 weeks old. I took 2 weeks off when we first got him, and after the first week I'd leave him alone for a half hour or so a day, building up to a full day.

He's now on his own, off and on, for up to 10 hours a day. But he is crated during this time, so there's not much damage he CAN do!

When he gets to be older, we'll start leaving him in the house outside of the crate on his own for 15 minutes, then 1/2 an hour, etc. until he's done well enough that we can leave him out of the crate for the full day.

I think all dogs like to be with their people - just make sure that the time you do have home with him/her is quality time.

Her track record of destruction is one newspaper, and 3 shoes (I shouldn't have left them out). But we left her in her crate until about 8 months- then she was given the living room but we didn't leave anything around (except shoes accidently). She's now just 2 and has full run of the house and hasn't wrecked anything in over a year. When we did leave her I often left the radio on and gave her a kong snack with something in it to give her something to do.

Thanks you for your posts !! it's very nice.
Your messages are reassuring, so I will take full advantage of this dog, once he gets used to his crate and absences.
