My name is Trevor, I'm from Pennsylvania and I first saw a Bernese Mountain Dog while looking at a different dog breed and automatically fell in love with it. I decided to join this forum to learn as much as I can about the breed before making the decision to get one as I want to know the potential of this breed and to make sure I learn as much as possible so I can give my future (hopefully) berner an amazing life and home.

Welcome Trevor. I've never had this breed before, I had Rottweilers, Sheppards, pit bulls lol

I have to say so far she's the absolute best. Smart, lovable and cuddly.

It all depends on your lifestyle really. Berners are not the most active. I do miss my 2 hours walks sometimes.

Good Luck! There's lots to read here.

Hi Trevor,
This is a great breed, they are very loving & dedicated to their family. They need lots of love and attention as any pet does but in my experience this breed likes/needs just a little more than the average dog. Remember it is a working class dog so it does need lots of activity, if it does not have the time to expell energy it can get into trouble out of boredom. I live in a rural area of NY state any mine have the opporotunity to run & be free, and they enjoy it. However, there are people in NYC who have them and they walk them religously in the streets of NYC and that works out fine for them. Berners are usualy great with children and also seem to be able to sense when a person is weak and needs extra TLC. I have two currently and have had the pleasure to be around the breed a lot since a friend of mine breeds them. There is nothing better than being with a group of these dogs when they are socializing together, just being dogs.
