I'm new to the site so please bear with me. My wife and I have a 5 1/2 year old Berner. She has always been very friendly. Sometimes she gets a little aggressive towards food but we deal with that and it's not a big deal.
The problem we're having is that over the past few months she has been getting somewhat aggressive towards us. Mostly my wife. When we pet her she sometimes growls a little. Her tail continues to wag and she snuggles in but she's growling! We have cats and it seems like she's trying to purr. My wife will come up to her while she's lying on the floor, she says her name and gets a tail wag and when my wife goes to pet her she jumps up and starts growling and baring her teeth. It happened to my mother in law not too long ago too. The problem is, as soon as she does it she acts so cute and tries to get you to pet her. She knows how to appologize really well. She sometimes goes after our other dog, who is a couple of years younger, for no reason other than he touched her while while he was stretching as they were lying on the floor. We're not sure what has caused this change in her. She hasn't had any accidents. When we touch her she doesn't wince in pain. Any help or advice or training methods we could try would be of great help. Thank you very much. |

Interesting...This is odd to me that she would start this behavior towards you & your wife at this age after having her for years. I think If it were one of mine I would probly consult with my vet & have a thorough exam including blood work. Something might be happening with her that you can not see with your eyes. Keep in mind that our Berners are very proud and typicaly will hide their pain. So you may not be able to tell if there is something happening. May just be nothing and shejust needs a good "Correction"
but its best to be sure. Keep us posted. |

I'd also be worried about some kind of pain. We've taken our Molly to a Chiro here where we live (1hr from Guelph) and a couple times she's had her she's said that she really needed adjusted and I'd never noticed anything wrong when I would pet her and she never seemed uncomfortable.
