Hi everyone! My name is Tracy. Our family recently fostered a Lab mix mom and her 7 puppies for our local spca. We decided to adopt one of the puppies. His name is Boone. We are not sure what the pups are mixed with but most were very stocky, and quite fluffy. There legs look like little tree trunks. Boone is now 8 weeks old.

We are Great Dane lovers and haven't owned anything but Great Danes for years. So I'm in search of information on our new little guy. He seems very mellow, very smart and very attentive to us. We have a small herd of Nigerian Dwarf goats that he is very gentle with, so far. He's honestly just a joy.

Here's a few pictures. Let me know if you think he may be part Bernes. Thanks!

Wondering is someone just slipped him in with the rest of the litter when he really was not the puppy of that lab mix! Did the other puppies look anything like him?

A good guess actually, as this is a Berner!

I have seen a lot of Berner mixes including lab and golden mixes with Berner...and never has a pure Berner come out of that genetic pool.

This is a pure Berner, and I bet if DNA tested there would be no lab there at all.

Just my guess!

His mom was surrendered to the spca along with the pups when they were 3 weeks old and I took them in. The mom was only 11 months old herself. She was pure black but had a heavier coat than a typical lab.

5 of the puppies were heavy coated and big solid pups. 3 of them had Rottie markings with very little white. One was solid black with a little white on her chest. Boone was the only one that had the white blaze, chest, socks and tip on his tail. But they were all the same size. Huge for this poor young lab girl. The other 2 of the 5 pups were the only ones that looked lab.

I have looked and looked at pictures of Bernes Mountain Dog pups on the internet and am amazed at how much he does look pure bred. I'm looking forward to seeing how he turns out.

Here are a few pictures that I had posted of the mom and pups on my facebook. Ofcourse most of the pics are of Boone!

Ok.....given the lab was black with a fuller coat, then the only way to produce a full Berner pup in the litter is this lab mom must have been bred with a full purebred Berner (who is pre-potent for over-marking) given that this Berner pup is over marked by coming from a Black dog without white.

If you could find out more about where the lab came from (and who she was bred to) you might be able to get more info on health and specifics of dad.
